No matter if you own a laptop or desktop, you need to perform the same procedure to reset BIOS settings. Because both devices require runtime services to launch an operating system and manage the data flow between input/output devices.

Also, you should be aware of the fact that the process of resetting BIOS Settings works the same for every Windows OS version. They do come in different firmware but depending upon the device manufacturers, such settings have nothing to do with the OS versions.

How Do I Reset BIOS to Default Settings?

Users are required to perform a simple procedure to reset BIOS settings to default. They need to enter the BIOS interface to perform such a task.

The shortcut key for entering BIOS settings is different for HP, DELL, Lenovo, Acer, and other manufacturers. And it is shown at the startup, whenever you turn on your computer. To be specific it’s F10, F2, F12, F1, or DEL keys. You need to press the BIOS key while your computer is booting or the manufacturer’s logo is displaying.

When you execute the Load Optimal Defaults command, you need to use your keyboard to select the Yes option. After confirming this action, your settings will be restored to defaults.

You can also navigate to the Security tab to perform such a task. But once you are successful, do remember to save the implied settings. So after pressing the ESC key, choose the Save and Exit option.

How Do I Reset UEFI Firmware?

For modern computers, running UEFI instead of BIOS, users are required to navigate to the Recovery mode. From there you can easily restart the UEFI firmware, without having to follow any complications.

It’s easy to enter the recovery mode on Windows 11 and Windows 10 computers. Users are required to launch the start menu and navigate to the Power menu. Now, long-press the Shift key and click on the Restart button. After a couple of seconds, a recovery window with a blue-colored interface will start to appear.
